A long time coming...

It has taken me forever to finish this project, I just kept having one more thing pop up that kept me from finishing it up but I'm glad I finally finished it. This was a side project I worked on while at the Journal, we were going to try and work it into the paper but while they were transitioning to the new three day print cycle and other new initiatives this kind of fell beneath the cracks.

But, I definitely felt that I wanted to finish this. The guys from the club are a great bunch. If you have a chance to check them out definitely do so, their web site can be found here. Good luck on your new season guys.

Troubled Times

Well I'm more than halfway through my internship with the Flint Journal, and I'm finding this job more challenging than I thought it would be, I'm beginning to wish that my education had been a little more skills oriented rather than book oriented. The fault for this is part mine but also part of my education, I wish we had a bit more of a focus on skill training as opposed to the overwhelming book work courses.

I am happy with how this shoot went though, I really liked the emotion it portrayed.

Some work of the last few days...

It's nice when you get good play on an image. Many of our assignments these days are enterprise feature, and they usually get good play in the paper, but not that many make it online. But every third or fifth image makes it here's one that I took last week that I pretty happy with the play.

Nick Rutherford, 18, of Flint catches some air at the Flint Skate Park. Warmer temperatures - including a high of 57 today and nearing 70 on Tuesday - also mean a return to outdoor activities, although Rutherford says the weather doesn’t keep him from his hobby. 'Skateboarding is my life. I do it every day, no matter (whether it is) cold or not,' he said.

Two weeks in...

Well I'm now up to my waist in Flint news. I've had everything from portraits to my first accident coverage so far. Here is a shot I took on Tuesday.

Bobby Johnson is a community organizer, he's working with Bunche school(in the background) to revitalize and clean up Max Brandon Park. A park near where his brother, Rev. Herbert Hart, was killed last year and has a reputation for being the location of drug deals and a site to drop bodies.

Johnson has a plan to remake the park into a place for families and kids again, if you want to know more about his story check it out over at MLive.

Flint Journal Day One

So I've begun my first day with the Journal, man I feel like photography is starting all over for me again. Maybe its shooting with Nikons, maybe its being the youngest of the photo staff, maybe its that I haven't shot an assignment on deadline for about a year before last Friday, maybe its a new town where every time I get in my car I end up needing to unfold a wall map to find that I'm am actually going the right way.

Well actually its probably all of these. But man does it feel great, tiring for sure but amazingly enjoyable. I'm looking forward to Monday's paper, I think I might have the A1 and the A3, when I see that I might have to sit down for a minute.
